More on the Subject of Trains

News image
I think the space fortress will have 3 kinds of trains:
	A streamlined, futuristic train
	A grungy, military-style train
	A bio-mechanical train
... each with a few different types of matching carriages.

Here's my little illustration of the streamlined one, which I've begun spriting ...

Update
First train type nearly finished and other 2 underway ...

Level 16 Fortress Trains

Folder preview
Before X-Bomber the Game is done, there needs to be a big train set created for the inside of the space fortress...
In Zipper's futuristic tank shooter: Recoil, there is a mysterious train in level 4.

It's very difficult to get a close look at it because it's faster than the player vehicle and can't be damaged by your weapons, requiring you to collapse a bridge in order to destroy it.
The train and each of the three carriages are armed with arc sabre weapons that rapidly drains your shield if you get anywhere near it.

The youtube playthrough videos weren't showing me what I wanted to see of it, so I used a save game to get really close to it to capture some screenshots; the BFT player vehicle getting destroyed in the process.

I also found that the game has an overhead view mode (press "G"), which was very useful for getting a top-down view on the train.
The VTOL aircraft that transports the BFT between missions looks better from above than it does from below.

Raptor: Call of the Shadows Music Remake

I often say that Raptor was a big reason for me making an X-Bomber space shooter.

These remixes of the soundtrack for Raptor: Call of the Shadows, done by Ebbelboiz have been around for some time but I only came across them the other day.
	2011 version | 2022 version

The screenshots in the video show the fantastic art direction and graphics in this game, which give it an unbelievable atmosphere.

X-Fighter Multiplayer Progress

Folder preview
Before I released v0.84m, I wanted the X-Fighter multiplayer preview to feature afterburners and shields that activate when the weapons and shield reserves are maxed out.
That's all been done now.

The shield mechanism is fine but could use some improvement later on.

I will say that, because this version has been delayed by months thanks to all sorts of issues and distractions unrelated to the game itself, that it has not been extensively finally tested.
If you notice any new issues, let me know, and I can fix and rebuild this version.

How UFO Series 2 Got Taken Away

Not much new on the Star Fleet front, so here's a video on Space 1999 instead:
SPACE 1999: Gerry and Sylvia Anderson Remember
	(Behind the Scenes Documentary)
	 - Century 21 Films (youtube)

This is a great video from just a few weeks ago, where Gerry and Sylvia Anderson drop the absolute bomb on the people who came in and de-railed Space 1999 from being the show that it was always meant to be: UFO, only better.

Ongoing DDOS

Since last weekend, we've had to put a large number of enormously wide IP blocks in place for the site and, more specifically, for the forum.

The attack began to tail off late last week but is still intermittently ongoing.

The attack has consisted of millions of attackers that I can see in AW Stats. They are targetting a large number of PHPBB installations, alongside Xenforo, as well as even forums that were written individually for their sites.

At the forum end, we can see that the attackers are trying to register bogus accounts, reset passwords and break into the user control panel etc. but none of that has worked for them here.

It's clear that the explanation that, for some reason, has been thrown around for these recent attacks: that this is companies scraping the forum to train AIs, is garbage.
Stunning the server with that many clients is so disproportionate and counterproductive to this stated objective that it can't seriously be held up as a way of disguising the true purpose.

About 80% of site admins reporting this issue that I've come across have switched over to using cloudflare to address the problem.
There are so many issues with using cloudflare when it comes to the integrity of user data that I'm actually staggered that as many site admins even seriously considered adopting it.

What I can say is that this site will *NEVER* use cloudflare or any similar 'service' where your client data is passed off to a 3rd party for them to decrypt, inspect and then, (if you're lucky) pass on to our server.
I would far rather see the site go under with 508 resource errors permanently than make that compromise.

If any legitimate user has trouble accessing the forum due to the huge range of IPs that I've blocked, please let me know and I'll just do a carve-out for you in htaccess to get you back in.

Star Fleet Board Game

I found this image of a card from the Star Fleet board game a good while back but it didn't get added to the site until now.

There are quite a few images of the board and counters in the Toys and Merchandise part of the site but this card features quite an interesting image of the Alliance fighters attacking an off-world installation that isn't seen in the series.
The illustration itself looks good, but the photo is fuzzy.

It would be interesting to track the game down and see what other cards are in it.

Phil Base - Lego Star Fleet

Folder preview
I see that Phil at SFFB has been very busy (I assume in Lego Designer), making Lego versions of the Star Fleet characters.
As it stands, we have Shiro, Hercules, Lee and Lamia.

Thanks to Dan Hitchin for letting me know about this interesting project
